Govt agrees to promote 7 500 teachers

Nairobi - The Education Cabinet Secretary,
Jacob Kaimenyi has said that the government will spend an estimated KES 4.4
billion this year in hiring of 5 000 staff and promotion of 7 500 teachers.
This is in response to KNUT’s call
for the promotion of 53 000 teachers and recruitment of 20 000 staff, which
Kaimenyi said is limited by budgetary constraints.
The teacher to pupil ratio in Public
Primary Schools currently stands at 49 pupils per teacher, Daily Nation reports.
However, the new deal which was
reached after consensus between the CS and KNUT officials, is expected to ease
the situation which was aggravated by the introduction of free primary
