Nairobi - The Government has recalled 10,000 police officers from retirement to deal with the current spate of insecurity in the country.

Interior cabinet secretary Joseph Ole Lenku said Tuesday morning in Nairobi that thew retirees would help in community policing wherever they are currently based.

He insisted that the retirees would help in intelligence and to solve smaller problems in the community and aid police efforts.

" They will be vital to the way we operate as a security apparatus and will play a big role in enhancing security in the country, he said at Harambee House.

The government also announced a comprehensive life insuarance cover for the 80,000 strong police force.

Ole Lenku said that the deal, which was signed with the Pioneer Insurance Company, would help boost benefits for police officers who put their lives in danger on a daily basis to protect the nation.
