Government mulls closing schools
17 July 2013, 14:03
Nairobi - As the teachers defied court orders and rejected the proposed pay and their strike enters week four, on Tuesday the government was weighing the early closure of public schools to deal with the crisis.
The Standard reports that a senior education official, who spoke on anonymity, revealed that this had emerged as one of the options authorities are toying with to break the standoff with striking teachers affiliated to the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut).
Should the teachers continue with their hardline stance, public primary schools may be closed earlier than their scheduled August 9 dates.
