Global security firm bemoans insecurity

09 July 2014, 09:15

Nairobi - Global Guardian has expanded to Ghana in a move seen as linked to the insecurity in Kenya.

The company’s addition of Ghana to its list of countries where it provides personnel tracking, emergency response, security, intelligence, medical support, and evacuation services is seen as a move away from the potentially unstable business environment.

Global Guardian Chief Executive Officer, Dale Buckner announced that Ghana was logically the next step in expanding their coverage of Africa.

"The country has become a pillar of stability in the region.  We have seen a lot of interest in Ghana as a place to establish a business footprint on the continent and more of our clients traveling to the country,” said Buckner.

With the recent and increasingly frequent attacks by the terrorist groups Boko Haram in Nigeria and Al-Shabaab in Kenya, Ghana has become an attractive alternative for international investors.

"If the violence and terrorism continues to escalate in Kenya and Nigeria, there is a real risk to stability in both countries.  It is important for businesses operating in either country to have sound risk management and emergency plans in place to help ensure the safety of their employees," said Buckner.

The United States and a few European countries have since issued travel advisories against Kenya due to the security situation in the country.

Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility of the recent spate of attacks in the Kenyan coast in which scores of locals have lost lives.
