France to honour arts icon Mutie

Nairobi - The French Government will next week decorate
Peter Mutie with the medal of Chevalier of The Order of Arts and Letters for
his services rendered to the improvement of the cultural cooperation between
France and Kenya.
Remi Marechaux, the Ambassador of France to Kenya, will
confer the honour on Wednesday at the Residence of France.
This decoration is awarded to a devoted actor of culture in
Kenya and abroad.
The Embassy cited a number of breakthroughs Mutie reached
including the opened the Kenya Film Commission to the international exchanges,
to France, notably, through the cooperation agreement signed between the French
National Center for Cinema (CNC) and the Kenya Film Commission, in May 2011
during the International Cannes Film Festival.
The memorandum of understanding supports the cooperation
between the two countries in the area of film production, and grants a special
importance to preservation of film production heritage of both countries.
Mutie has also promoted the teaching on cinema in Kenya by
contacting the University of Toulouse and its Superior Audiovisual School to
start an ongoing cooperation between the French and Kenyan educational system
After his years of dedication to the Kenya Film Commission
as its Chief Executive Officer, Mutie is currently the Chairman of the Machakos
Entertainment Centre for Film, Music and the Arts (Machawood) which aims at
creating a major location for entertainment in Kenya and the continent.
Mutie is also, since 2011, the President of the Africa
Public Relations Association, which promotes effective performance of public
relations practice in the continent.
