04 November 2014, 14:45

Nairobi - Authorities have confirmed the recovery of five guns that were stolen from 21 policemen who were killed by bandits in Kapendo.

The locals surrendered the guns to the authorities through their elders and chiefs on Tuesday.

Authorities said they expected locals to hand over more guns after the expiry of an ultimatum that was issued by President Uhuru Kenyatta after, who toured the region after the attack, Daily Nation reported.

Regional power brokers said the attackers mistook the police officers for an invading tribe.

President Kenyatta ordered the tribe to turn over those responsible for the attack immediately, but they asked him to give them two weeks to do so.

Pokot leaders asked the president for forgiveness and asked for help in solving a long running boundary dispute with the nearby Turkana people.
