Mombasa - An Ex-Mungiki member who joined Al Shabaab after converting to Islam in 2002 has been sentenced to death for last year’s Lamu massacre.
Gituge Ngamau alias Mohamed Ali confessed to killing 12 people in Hindi, after which he received a pay of KES 20 000 from local businessmen who also supplied killers with weapons.
Ngamau was arrested at an IDP camp and is being held at Shimo la Tewa Prison in Mombasa, The Standard reports.
He further disclosed that he was working with the slain British jihadist Thomas Evans and a German, Andreas Mueller.
Thomas Evans, also known as Abdul Hakim, was killed during an attack on KDF barracks in Lamu that left 15 Al Shabaab militants and 2 KDF soldiers dead. The attack happened on the Mpeketoni massacre anniversary.
Police offered a KES 10 million bounty for information leading to the capture of Andreas Mueller, who took part in the June pre-dawn attack.
