Isiolo - Kenyan police have intercepted elephant tusks and arrested two suspects in Isiolo.
Isiolo county commissioner Wanyama Musiambo confirmed Monday the
tusks were intercepted in the central part of the town while on transit
He said the suspects were caught when moving tusks from Samburu county.
"We have upscaled our surveillance and erected road blocks along the
Isiolo-Moyale highway to ensure that we stop this menace once and for
all," the government administrator told Xinhua on Monday.
Musiambo said some of the tusks were cut into pieces to ease
transportation while others were tied with polythene papers and hidden
under the drivers' seat.
He said the officers had earlier received information on the suspects
who were planning to transport the trophies through Isiolo town.
He hailed members of the public for volunteering information to
security agents and appealed to them to continue in a bid to save the
animals from poachers.
