Eight feared dead in Kakamega accident

Nairobi - Eight people are feared dead after a pick up ferrying passengers to a funeral collided with a mini-bus along the Kakamega- Kisumu highway.

The accident occurred Tuesday at Emuraka market when the two collided head on.

Over 30 others were rushed to the Kakamega Hospital with various injuries, as members of the public tried hard to rescue those stuck in the vehicle.

The pick-up was ferrying nearly 20 mourners to a funeral as well as the body of the deceased when the accident occurred.

According to the Kenya Red Cross officials at the scene, eight persons were crushed to death while others received various injuries and were sent to hospital.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya arrived at the scene after hearing of the accident.
