Court orders woman to pay back bride price

27 March 2015, 12:04

Kisii - A court granted a Kisii man divorce from his cheating wife, and also ordered her to refund part of the dowry he paid when they got married.

James Mayaka, a secondary school teacher, filed a suit in against Everline Kerubo in 2011, accusing her of dumping him for another man in 2009, barely five years after their union in 2004, The Standard reported.

Delivering the ruling, Kisii High Court Judge ordered Kerubo to refund KES 205,000 being part payment for dowry and the fees Mayaka paid for her college education.

Mayaka had asked the court to order Kerubo refund KES 120,000 he paid as dowry and another KES 209,000 he paid for her college education but the court ordered Kerubo to refund half the amount for each category.
