Class Eight pupil accidentally shoots friend to death

09 March 2015, 13:02

Meru - A primary school pupil was accidentally shot dead by his schoolmate in Igembe North, Meru County on Sunday.

The 15-year-old Class Eight pupil at Katherwa Primary School is said to have been playing with his father’s gun, before he accidentally pulled the trigger and killed his friend on the spot, Daily Nation reported.

Local authorities confirmed the incident saying the gun belongs to the boy’s father, who is a police reservist in the area, and that the shooting was not intentional.

Early last month, a 16-year-old boy shot dead his 12-year-old colleague in Isiolo County, which neighbours Meru, while herding cattle, an incident that forced authorities to warn parents against giving their children firearms while herding animals.
