Nairobi - Authorities on Wednesday night arrested a Chinese woman at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) with 6.9 kilos of ivory worth KES 1.2 million that had been disguised as macadamia nuts.
Confirming the incident to The Standard, airport CID boss Joseph Ngisa said they are trying to establish if there is more ivory where the middle-aged woman enroute to Hong Kong had stayed in Kenya.
The woman is expected in court Wednesday to answer to charges, following the growing concern in Kenya over rising levels of poaching.
