Nairobi - A special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Kenya's independence on December 12, a Foreign Ministry spokesman announced Thursday.
The special envoy is Wan Exiang, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, spokesman Hong Lei told a routine press meeting in Beijing.
The visit by a top Chinese envoy will be no surprise noting the high number of business deals the two countries have struck in recent years.
China has also been at the forefront of supporting Kenya in the efforts to stop president Uhuru Kenyatta from attending his trial at the Hague.
The United States also confirmed that it will send a delegation to Kenya for the celebrations.
