CJ: Judiciary to clear backlog in 6mths

19 October 2011, 15:08

Nairobi - Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga promises that his administration intends to eliminate the entire backlog of cases in the judiciary within the next six months, The Standard reports.

Mutunga was briefing judges, judiciary officials and other stakeholders on his progress in the 120 days since he took over the office, as he gave them a detailed programme of reforms to be carried out in the judiciary.

Top of his reform agenda includes establishing 14 new courts in remote parts of the country and digitizing all the operations of the judiciary.

Mutunga also said that the judiciary was also working on modalities of ensuring that cases involving children, old persons and victims of sexual offences were given priority.
