It is alleged that the CID officer, Nicholas Muriuki, abducted Mate on May 19, 2014 at Utalii Hotel in Nairobi County where he was attending a meeting to discuss the county’s budget for the coming financial year, Daily Nation reports.
Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ndwiga dismissed an application by the prosecution that he be remanded in police custody as investigations are not complete and released him on KES 100, 000 bond.
Mate’s wife, Caroline Wangari, had sought orders to have the Inspector General of Police, David Kimaiyo compelled to produce him but her plea was dismissed by High Court Judge Weldon Korir on grounds that she did not provide sufficient information for the court to issue such orders.
