CIC wants Consumer Protection laws amended

Nairobi - The Constitutional Implementation Commission (CIC) says there is a need to amend the Consumer Protection Act of 2012 before the end of this year.
The Commission Vice Chair, Dr Elizabeth Muli, said that the Act does not adequately protect the consumer as envisioned by the Constitution of Kenya in Article 46.
“In a meeting convened by the Consumer Federation of Kenya to discuss the legislative agenda for consumer protection, it was agreed that there is need to review the Act to bring it to full compliance with Article 46 of the constitution of Kenya,” said Muli in a letter.
She explained that the CIC had been in touch with the Attorney General to initiate the process of review so that the process could be completed by December 2014 since the matter affects every sector in the country.
