CIC urges Kibaki to reject MPs’ hefty package

08 October 2012, 07:38

Nairobi - The Constitutional Implementation Commission (CIC) will move to court to challenge the hefty send off package Members of Parliament awarded themselves on Thursday.

In a statement to The Standard, Charles Nyachae, the CIC chairman, led other commissioners in stating they have written to President Mwai Kibaki asking him not to assent to the Bill, saying the amendments were unconstitutional.

Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday evening, Nyachae went on to add that CIC will also move to court to seek a declaration that any MP who voted in favour of the unconstitutional provisions violated the Constitution and was therefore unsuitable to hold public office.
