Backlog of land cases overwhelms court

Nairobi - Lack of man power has led to an overwhelming backlog of land cases at the Environment and Land Division at the High Court, judge told a forum at Strathmore University.
Capital News reports that Lady Justice Pauline Nyamweya said that a majority of pending cases are disputes over small plots of land and the 16 judges in the department are having a hard task resolving the matters in good time.
Nyamweya went on to add that considering the huge number of land cases, more Environment and Land courts need to be established so that there can be efficiency in resolving land disputes. She however urged Kenyans to seek alternative dispute resolution mechanisms on land issues before taking the matters to court.
