Nairobi – Capital News reports that Omar Muchiri and Stephen Macharia, were on Friday charged with being members of Somalia’s hardline Al Shabaab militia, but they however denied the charges.
Kenyan born Muchiri and Macharia, denied being accomplices of fellow Elgiva Bwire Oliacha, who confessed on Wednesday to being a member of the extremist Shabaab militia.
The three were arrested this week as Kenyan police stepped up security in the wake of reprisal threats and attacks from Al Shabaab in the country in response to Nairobi’s military offensive in southern Somalia.
Kenyan troops rolled into Shabaab-controlled southern Somalia on October 16 to fight the insurgents it accuses of a series of kidnappings and attacks on its territory.
