Nairobi - At least 11 people were killed and more than 10 others injured in three separate accidents in eastern and northwest Kenya on Friday and early Saturday.
Five people were killed and one injured following an accident involving three trailers that occurred along Nairobi-Mombasa highway early Saturday. The crash caused heavy traffic for the better part of Saturday morning along the busy highway.
On Friday night, at least six people died in two different accidents along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway. A total of ten people, including six minors, were seriously injured during the accidents that occurred in a span of two hours and within a radius of two kilometers.
In the first incident, a family of five perished after a matatu they were travelling in was involved in a grisly accident near Kikopey center in Gilgil.

The victims were incidentally coming from a family reunion in Kiambogo area and heading back to their homes in Mbaruk when the accident occurred. Joel Thuku, a witness, said the matatu was driving downhill when it rammed head on into the incoming Canter.
In the second incident, a canter driver died on the spot after he rammed into the rear of a stalled lorry in Naivasha.
Amos Gichuru, a witness, said both vehicles were heading towards Nakuru when the accident occurred with the conductor of the Canter suffering serious head injuries.
"The Canter driver was in high speed and he rammed into the rear of the stalled lorry. He died on the spot," said Gichuru.
