Nairobi - Over 108 National Youth Service NYS personnel have been injured in a stampede at their Gilgil training base.
In a report on the Daily Nation, the recruits were injured Monday morning following a stampede caused by a
transformer explosion which caused panic at the site.
The recruits were injured while rushing to their respective exits looking for a way out to escape what they felt was a terror attack in the wake of the attack on a Kenya Defence Forces KDF base in Somalia.
The camp holds around 3,000 recruits at a go.
Several of the recruits picked up fractures with some of them described as serious, The Star Reported.

The injured were rushed to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital by the Kenya Red Cross.
In the second report, there was however confusion as the Commandant In-charge of the Gilgil base Stephen Ndirangu said that the stampede was not caused by the transformer explosion but by the recruits who were running away from their seniors.
"The group, on spotting their seniors, fled from their hideout towards
the crowd causing the others to panic and leading to the stampede,” he is quoted as saying.
He denied reports of an explosion and said learning had resumed.
