Nairobi - A political activist with the Democratic Party (DP) has allegedly been abducted by police in Shauri Moyo Estate, Nairobi County.
DP chairman Esau Kioni said the party’s youth leader, Abdul Mwangi Karuri, was picked by people believed to be police officers.
Speaking to journalists at his Othaya home, Kioni said the national chairman of the Youth Congress went missing on July 1, this year and efforts to trace him have been fruitless.
He said Karuri, 35, had just returned from Ghana where he had attended a youth congress and was yet to submit the report he had filed.
“The party officials and the family are now living in fear since we have been unable to trace him. Family members alleged that he was kidnapped by plain clothed police who were in a car which had no registration numbers,” he added.
Kioni asked Internal Security Cabinet Secretary, Joseph Nkaissery to ensure the safety of Karuri if he is being held by the police and if not, then he should explain his whereabouts.
Kioni said continued abduction of people who are later found dead is causing anxiety in the country.
The reports emerge at the heels of protests against extra-judicial killings following the murder of a lawyer, his client and a taxi driver allegedly by Administration Police officers.
