Worker dies as building collapses on his first day at work

Nakuru - One person died Thursday afternoon in Nakuru town after a building under construction collapsed.
According to Nakuru deputy OCPD, Janet Wasige who was at the scene, two workers who were digging foundation of the building when one of its wall caved in.
Wasige said that one of the workers was unconscious while the other was announced dead upon arrival at Nakuru General Hospital.
“It was unfortunate because one of the workers died while being rushed to hospital. They were actually digging foundation of the building,” she told the media.
The deputy OCPD also said that the construction site had a total of 22 workers who had reported to work.

She said that it took the intervention of Red Cross, Administration police and the public to rescue the workers, adding that the wall could have collapsed as a result of loss soil at the area.

Wasige added that the foreman in charge of the construction was not around during the time of the incident.
The police boss said they have launched investigations to establish if proper procedures had been followed by the contractor.
Boniface Mwilu, a worker at the site said that the foreman was forcing workers to dig the foundation of the upcoming building at the time of the incident.
