Woman in court for allegedly killing husband and two kids in night fire

28 September 2016, 20:42

Nairobi - A 25-year-old woman shocked a Molo court after she was charged with beating her husband to death and torching her matrimonial home in Molo with her two kids inside.

Joyce Wangare Njogu killed her husband at their home late in the night of August 29 by hitting him on the head with a blunt object before setting her house on fire leading to the death of her husband and two kids who were asleep at the time of the incident

According to the police file, the couple had had recurring domestic feuds that might have lead to the deaths of the three persons

She appeared before Justice Maureen Odero to take plea after a psychiatric examination proved she was mentally stable to plead to the charges which she denied.

The accused through her lawyer, Zenah Kiboss urged the court to release her client on bond awaiting determination of the matter.

Justice Maureen Odero however declined to issue any bond terms after the prosecution objected the application to bond until a pre-bail report is presented before court.

"A prebail report of the accused must first be done and presented before court to establish if the accused is fit to be released," she ruled.

The matter was slated for hearing on February 16.
