A widow, accused of conspiring to kill her husband, is fighting for her life at a Nyahururu hospital in what police believe was an attempt to commit suicide.
Nyandarua North Police boss, Timon Odingo, confirmed this morning that Margaret Wangari was admitted at a private hospital in Nyahururu town where she was taken in over the weekend, in a critical condition.
“It is suspected that she took poison soon after she arrived home from remand on Friday evening,” said Odingo.
Wangari was charged alongside six others of engineering the murder of her husband Daniel Waibochi and two others in June this year at Mairo Inya area in Nyandarua County.
She was released last week from Nyahururu women remand prison after her family managed to secure a Shs.3 million bond demanded for her release.
“She failed to report to the CID department on Monday as ordered by the court, raising our concern of her whereabouts,” said the police boss adding that it is not clear whether she committed suicide or she developed hypertension.
Preliminary reports, he said, revealed that the widow collapsed on arriving at her home and realized that her home had been damaged by residents and her bank accounts searched
