Witchcraft turns tragic as victim runs to a police post for safety

09 February 2016, 20:54 Yusuf Mohammed

Thika - Police in Thika sub-County have rescued a middle-aged man in Kiandutu from an angry mob that was baying for his blood.

The man, Patrick Karumba had sought the help of a witch-doctor from the neighbouring country of Tanzania to recover his stolen electronics.

Karumba claims that as he slept on February 4, someone made way into his house and sprayed him with a chemical that made him lose consciousness before making away with his electronics worth more than KES 60 000.

Karumba, a businessman in the Kiandutu slums was forced to swing into action after questioning his neighbours and family, but no one was willing to shed light on who could have been involved in the theft.

The witch-doctor then came and performed his rituals at a fees of KES 20 000. He allegedly made a concoction and forced 20 people, including the man's children, to drink it.

Hours later, the worst happened. Seven young men including three boys, became dump and the villagers were forced to take action.

Four men were able to regain their consciousness but the other two had to wait for the man to clear a balance of KES 8 000 he owed the witch-doctor.

The residents who were hungry for the man’s blood were restrained by administration police officers from Kiandutu police post.
