Bungoma - The wife of the late Sabaot Land Defence Force (SLDF) leader Wycliffe Matwakei, Salome Matakwei has been appointed to preach peace among the waring clans and leaders of Mt Elgon constituency.
Matakwei was unveiled the region's peace ambassador during the just concluded and signed 'Kabula peace declaration' at Kabula pastoral centre in Bumula sub-county that brought together Bungoma County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim, Sabaot Council of Elders, current Mp John Serut and former MPs Fred Kapondi and Joe Kimkung, as well as the National Cohesion and Integration Commission officials.
Commissioner Maalim noted that peace is paramount and that they had agreed to appoint Matwakei to spearhead peaceful coexistence in Mt Elgon.

"We appreciate the current leadership for accepting to endorse her to spearhead the peace process in the once volatile region. This is the greatest milestone we have achieved so far," he said.
Mt Elgon Mp, John Serut urged leaders and residents to coexist and preach peace to help fight tribal clashes that had been caused by land and political differences.
"We are a peaceful people; the government should give the Chepyuk squatters title deeds so they can fully own the land in Kopsiro division. These people have resided in this land for close to 50 years and they feel neglected," said Serut.
Matwakei applauded the Sabaot elders and national government for endorsing her to spearhead peaceful coexistence in Mt Elgon constituency.
