Why Uhuru is not happy with Joho
16 March 2016, 21:16
President Uhuru Kenyatta is not happy with the fact that
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho undermined his Presidency in public during his
trip to the Coast.
The President was initially diplomatic of the criticism sent
his way by Joho during a rally in Likoni where the Governor accused him
sidelining his efforts in the Coast during his tour.
But with the likes of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko springing
up against Joho and accusing him of undermining the Presidency, the President
and his advisors took a different view to the issue.
Just a few days after the Joho criticism, his family’s depot
in Mombasa was invaded by government officers and closed.
And with the Malindi by election campaigns not slowing down
the criticism of the government by Joho, the President had to act.
“The President was told that Joho was undermining the
Presidency. His advisers did not take too kindly the continued attacks by Joho
on the Presidency,” a State House source told News24.
And with Joho and the CORD brigade in the Coast not stopping
its attacks, a solution it seems was found to stifle the CORD Governor.
“He is outspoken. That is fine. However, he undermines the
President all the time and that is not acceptable,” the source added.
Joho’s security was first of all taken down and then his
firearm license taken out and with the full force of the law coming against
him, with the government trying to arrest him.
