Why Raila refused to meet EACC

10 December 2015, 09:50 William Korir

Nairobi - CORD leader Raila Odinga has refused to meet the EACC to shed light on the Eurobond saga. Why?

The CORD leader, through his lawyer Paul Mwangi, stated that he would not attend the summon effected by the EACC and set for today Thursday for a number of reasons.

First, he stated that the EACC has far superior legal and personnel capabilities than himself to pursue and obtain primary evidence in respect to investigations into the Eurobond saga.

" It is curious why, before exhausting these capacities, the Commission has found it necessary to seek our client’s help in their investigation,” Mwangi said.

Second, he complained why despite many other individuals being on record as speaking about Eurobond, only he was summoned. He termed the summon personal.

" None have received a similar letter from you inviting them to your Integrity Centre offices to share with you all the ‘information and material documents’ they may be having regarding the Eurobond saga,” he added.

The CORD leader also insisted that he has a right Constitutionally as the main opposition leader in the country to make noise about the Eurobond saga.

" It is from this constitutional perspective that our client has been quoted extensively commenting in the media on the ‘Eurobond Saga’," he added.

Raila has been on the government's case over the alleged misappropriation of KES 250 billion from the Eurobond, of which he claims KES 100 billion was wasted.
