Why Cord wants IEBC commission out
01 August 2016, 17:26
Nairobi - Cord coalition have in the past vowed not to participate in the 2017 general elections if the current Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is not reconstituted.
So why are the coalition vehemently against Isaac Hassan and his team? News24 reveals why cord wants the IEBC chair Isaac Hassan and his team out.
A remark by embattled IEBC chairman Isaac Hassan during the 2013 presidential elections petition before the supreme court against cord leader Raila Odinga is the reason why cord wants him out of office.
Hassan had termed the cord leader "perennial loser" while opposing the cord's petition before the supreme court.
Last week Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed told the joint Parliamentary committee on electoral reforms that the statement was indeed the reason why they want the IEBC out as it showed that they were impartial.
"The statement is unfair and Isaac and his team should handle the next polls as he has proved to be impartial", he told the committee.
Cord wants the IEBC commission out saying that they lack credibility and has proven to be impartial.
