Why come-we-stay relationships are on the rise

07 June 2016, 09:08 Philomenah Chebet

Couples cohabiting without formally getting married is common nowadays. Below are reasons for these arrangements;

1. Costly dowry

With the increasing commercialization of dowry payment, many men are scared by the cost incurred. With come we stay arrangements, no one asks for dowry and you have no stress of collecting and saving money to pay for a woman.

2. Unpaid 'house help'

In come we stay arrangements, you get someone to do the cooking, laundry and cleaning without incurring costs. You even save on cost that could be incurred buying food and taking clothes to the laundry.

3. Sexual satisfaction

You get quality and available sex in come we stay arrangements and so some see no reason for a legal wife since everything is catered for in this arrangement.

4. Total freedom

No one questions when you arrive late in the house, lets say after watching football with friends because the come we stay wife has no right to ask where you were and with whom, unlike a legal wife whom you are answerable to.
