White settler in court for attempting to kill herder

Nyahururu - Hurry George denied the charges before chief magistrate Mrs Judith Wanjala and was released on KES 300 000 bond with a surety of a similar amount.
He was charged that on November 24 at Thome village within Rumuruti area in Laikipia County, he attempted to kill Saigwana Lepeere, a 25-year-old herdsman by shooting him on the thigh.
The court heard that on the fateful day, the complainant was heading to Thome village when he encountered the furious rancher quarreling with children who were herding cattle along the road next to his ranch.
The court further heard that the children ran away when the rancher drew a firearm and shot the complainant on the right thigh that exited through the left thigh before driving away leaving him writhing in pain on the ground.

He was later arrested after investigations and taken to Rumuruti police station where he was charged with the offence.
The prosecution led by Faith Mutuku objected bids by the complaint who was also present in court to withdraw the case and resolve it out of court.
“The offence committed by the accused is against the state. Therefore, the complainant has no capacity to withdraw the case that is before court,” said the prosecutor.
The hearing date was set for February 12, next year and mentioned on December 14, this year.
