Wetang'ula waiting for Raila to explain why he missed his presidential launch

04 April 2016, 08:09 Dareel Eric

Bungoma - Cord co-Principal, Moses Wetang'ula has ruled out disunity in the coalition after ODM party leader, Raila Odinga skipped his presidential  launch on Saturday.

Wetang’ula said any disunity in the coalition at such a time would give Jubilee government an earlier Christmas, something they cannot dare.

“I do not want to be a prophet of doom. We have our agreement that we will walk together come what may. The rally was attended by members from ODM, Wiper and Ford Kenya who are willing to work together to the end,” said Wetang’ula.

He added, “Raila had informed us that he was coming to the launch but then he didn’t turn up. Maybe he was caught up with time and decided to go on with his visit to Tanzania.”

He said he had not communicated with his co-principal and was waiting for him to come back home so he can explain what made him to skip the rally.

He spoke when he visited Kenya’s first independence education minister Joseph Otiende at his home Kegoye village, Vihiga County.

He was accompanied by Secretary Luhya Forum Peter Ludava, Tiriki Elder Sammy Aluda and Moses Mwambo.

Otiende sustained an injury to his head during the rally at Muliro Gardens in Kakamega when a teargas canister was lobbed at the VIP dais.

Wetang’ula condemned those who initiated chaos at his presidential launch saying they cannot stop his ambition.

“I cannot imagine that someone lobbed a teargas at Otiende who is now 99 years old and who had attended the function. The doctors have assured us that Mzee is out of danger and that he suffered minor lacerations on the head,” said Wetang’ula.

He asked police to expedite investigations into how a civilian was in possession of such devices like teargas.

Otiende asked the government to ensure security of all Kenyans is guaranteed at all times so as to avert such cases in the future.

“I want to know the story behind someone lobbying a teargas to such an old man like me,” he said.
