Nairobi - The attack on a KDF camp in Somalia which saw approximately 60 soldiers killed could have seen many more dead had soldiers not reacted quickly.
According to a number of soldiers who spoke to News24 on arrival back in the country from Somalia, the soldiers reacted quickly to the attack.
The attack which took place at dawn on Friday in Al Adde Somalia, saw the camp attacked by two vehicle bombs as well as hordes of Shabaab attackers on foot.
" There were many killed in the first two explosions as well as the first wave of attacks. After that we reacted quickly and staved off the attackers. many more could have been killed if there was no quick reaction," a solder who survived by virtue of being at the back of the camp attacked said.

Another officer said he saw the attackers go after confused soldiers who were shocked by the first two explosions.
" I was at the back of the camp when I heard movement and then the explosions. We all quickly reacted but the soldiers who were at the forefront were sadly attacked," he continued.
It is not yet clear what number of soldiers died in the attack which took place Friday.
Al Shabaab has however declared that it killed over 100 soldiers and other reports stated that it had paraded the dead bodies to members of the public after the attack.
