Wake up call for Ruto despite Kericho win
08 March 2016, 18:23
Nairobi - Despite winning the Kericho by election, the huge cracks that can be seen enveloping the Jubilee Coalition are a huge cause for concern.
Jubilee candidate Aaron Cheruiyot scored over 100,000 votes to win the Senate seat at the expense of KANU's Paul Sang who hit over 50,000 votes.
It was a convincing win but a clear reminder that the rebellion against Jubilee and DP William Ruto is no joke.
That the opposition could win as many as 50,000 votes was unthinkable two months ago.
The fact that so many could show dissent towards the DP has surprised Jubilee insiders.
" The results have surprised the DP. We all expected to win but the number of people who voted for KANU has surprised all of us," a Jubilee insider told News24.
" There is clearly work to be done ahead of 2017," the source added.
The DP has been involved in a shouting match with KANU in the last few weeks and with the temperature in the Rift very high, might just see a tense and competitive elections come 2017.
It is clear at the moment that KANU will not be a part of the Jubilee Coalition come the 2017 polls.
