Nairobi - It is no secret that former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru will contest for the Nairobi Governor's seat in the 2017 elections. But what is her strategy?
The confident Waiguru is certain that she has a good chance of winning the race to the top of the hill in the city and according to sources is already plotting a serious campaign to see her victorious.
The former CS, relieved from duty has already been in the public scene mounting a series of public shows to get her back into the good books of Kenyans after her controversial stay at the Devolution ministry which saw her linked with a massive corruption scandal.
Her plan is to first and foremost get herself good press. The former CS has in the last month or two mounted a number of passionate television interviews to depict herself as a fun, God fearing and hard-working individual.
She has also written a newspaper column to shed a different light on the Waiguru no one knows. She hopes that the new image will help her win votes come the poll.
" The perception of the madam by Kenyans is relatively good and there is the feeling that she was set up to fail by certain forces and that she has indeed nothing to do with all the scandals that took place in the devolution ministry," a source close to the former CS told News24.
Secondly, Waiguru is planning to use the vast female vote to help her mount a challenge. She has already identified several initiatives that will help her achieve this in the coming months as she knows that women will genuinely back one of their own when the time comes.
" She has already seen the fact that there is a vast female vote to stake her claim. She is confident that she can create the right image to win the female votes," the aide added.
Third, will be to highlight the mistakes made by current Governor Evans Kidero.
Kidero has overseen a tumultuous time as Governor and the jury is out on whether he can convince the people of Nairobi to re-elect him.
" The fact is that Kidero is culpable for a number of wrongs in the city and is vulnerable. The plan is to play on his weaknesses and expose his mistakes," Waiguru is said to believe.
For now, the former CS is yet to officially make an announcement on her candidacy but is said to have already warmed up to the idea.
