28 June 2016, 21:35 Mbungu Harrison

Mombasa - Mombasa county commissioner Maalim Mohamed has called on Muslim clerics to extend the war on youth radicalization and drug abuse into mosques during this holy Month of Ramadhan  to restore peace and security in the entire Coast region.

During a piece and security meeting with Mombasa Muslim clerics on Tuesday the area security chairman urged the clergy to use the ongoing Holy Month of Ramadhan sermons to preach peace and radicalization.

The tough talking security chief asked the clerics to  ensure religion and Mosques are not used to hide criminals and terrorists but to encourage, peace and unity, and coexistence.

“I know some of your leaders were killed by radical youths years back but that should not make you to fear, you have the responsibility to empower them for a peaceful society.”Said Mombasa county commissioner Maalim Mohamed while launching ( Imarisha amani pwani campaign ) to be spearheaded by  Muslim leaders to fight radicalization and drugs abuse  at Sonara Hall.

He also cautioned imams against allowing their mosque to be used to propagate hate massages saying that government will take action on the individual to ensure he does not taint the image of the religion.

The commissioner called for coordination with other religions and peace stakeholders  to identify and isolate  the enemy, criminals who are allegedly hiding  within the society for them not to harm innocent souls.

Council of imams and preachers of Kenya CIPK  organizing secretary Sheik Mohamed Khalifa said the (Imarisha  amani pwani ) programe will take eighteen months and  will tour  school, churches and mosques to preach anti radicalization ,coexistence and drug abuse campaign involving the entire society.

“We have come out to take the lead for a better society what we need is government and community support I am sure we will win for a peace society’’,said Sheik Mohmed Khalifa .

The movement brought together sheiks an imams who some of them had previously received treats from radical youth for preaching against it which demoralized their effort for  fear of  their life.
