URP wants all members to accompany DP Ruto to the Hague

17 November 2015, 21:35

Nakuru - Deputy president William Ruto’s United Republican Party (URP) has put on notice members who fail to either travel to the Hague or support the travel in solidarity with Ruto during the ICC assembly of state parties which begins Wednesday.

Party secretary general Fred Muteti said that every URP member both in Senate and National Assembly should stand in solidarity with their party boss by either travelling with him to The Hague or supporting those who will travel.

Speaking Tuesday evening in Naivasha town during the party’s retreat for County officials, Muteti said the party will not hesitate to ask members who do not travel to explain why they should not be punished.

“The entire URP brigade is going with our party general to The Hague and anybody who was elected on the party’s ticket, be it in the National Assembly or Senate and does not show support for this cause must tell us who he is working with because we are going to put them to task as a party,” said Muteti.

He added that URP had written to all its elected members asking them to either travel to The Hague or support those who will travel.

“Every member knows that he must support Ruto because we wrote all of them and those who defy this directive will be dealt with,” he said.

Members of the Jubilee coalition are planning to travel to The Hague during the the assembly of ICC member states to push for the quashing of a decision by ICC judges to use recanted evidence in the case against Ruto and Joshua Sang.
