Nairobi - University of Nairobi students are on the rampage. Again.
The students, demonstrating Saturday night against what they termed as harassment by the University vice chancellor Professor Peter Mbithi stated that they would continue with the demonstrations until he changes tact.
They accused him of curtailing their freedoms by placing National Youth Service NYS officers all over the institution and also ensuring that they stop cooking in the hostels.
The demonstrators who chanted 'Mbithi Must go' said the recently
appointed VC has interfered with their personal lives and well-being.
They destroyed the university mess and kitchen in the process.
Further, they destroyed equipment set to be used in a concert to be held at the university grounds Sunday which left organizers angry with their actions.
" Extreme vandalism, burning of tents, theft of niShowPower equipments happened last night at University of Nairobi," he said.
" Thus the niShowPower gig has been cancelled. Late last night the event site was vandalised, equipments stolen by "students".
The VC's office did not comment on the matter stating that it would Monday when a better picture of things has been noted down.
