Nairobi - President Uhuru Kenyatta personally invited CORD leader Raila Odinga and others to the visit to see injured KDF soldiers, it has been revealed.
It is understood that the President made the call to the CORD leader to avail himself to the Forces Memorial Hospital in Nairobi Friday to help put through a united political front in the wake of the deadly Shabaab attack.
This came just a day after CORD MPs blasted Defence chiefs and called for their sacking.
It is understood that Raila was aware of the statement which denied that ODM top brass had backed the statement by a number of MPs.
" Raila called it off. It was not the type of statement to put out at such a juncture," a CORD official told News24.
The CORD leader as well as co principals Kalonzo Musyoka and other top brass CORD leaders were all the the Hospital to see the victims of the attack.
It is estimated that upto 100 soldiers could have died in the attack on the camp in Al Adde in Somalia by Al Shabaab militants.
There are also fears many others could be missing.
KDF Chief Samson Mwathethe says that the rescue operation is still ongoing a week into the aftermath of the attack.
" Rescue operations are still ongoing but getting to the final stages," he said Thursday.
