Migori - Two people have died and several others rendered homeless following a heavy downpour in Migori town.
One of the deceased, a 53 year-old man and six-year-old boy were hit by flying objects from blown up roofs, seriously injuring them at Pandpieri Estate.
The two later succumbed to injuries at Migori County Referral Hospital where they were rushed for treatment.
The heavy rainstorm accompanied by strong winds caught the residents unaware in the town and its environs at around 6 pm leading to the deaths and heavy destructions to many buildings.
According to an eyewitness, the old man was hit by part of a roof that had been blown off at a neighbouring home.
“He was going out to check how bad the storm was when flying shreds of iron-sheets and timber landed on him,” said the witness.
But the six-year-old boy was running away from his parents’ house when he was crushed by falling debris as a result of the storm.
Another resident, Dan Ochieng’ said they rushed the victims to Migori county referral hospital but it was too late.
Migori County Police Commander, David Kirui confirmed the incidents even as residents appealed to the County and National governments to support the bereaved families and those that had been rendered homeless.
