Nairobi - Tragedy has struck Ndimi village, Kirinyaga Central sub-county after a man’s body was found floating.
Area OCPD Eliud Monari said the man, who allegedly had a mental disability, had been reported missing by his family before he was found Wednesday evening dead in a swamp.
He said residents informed the police that the deceased identified as James Njiraini had attempted to swim in the swamp before he drowned.
The incident caused shock and anxiety among the residents who informed police.
A resident, James Kamau who saw the deceased trying to swim and disappear in the swamp raised alarm attracting other residents who embarked on a search in an attempt to save him.
Kamau said the deceased wanted to swim but unfortunately drowned.
He said the villager’s efforts to save his life from the water were unsuccessful as there were no divers while onlookers also feared for their lives.
“Even after the arrival of the police, they could not retrieve the body as they lacked the necessary equipments, it is only by stroke of luck the body came afloat much later,” Kamau narrated.
The body was removed to Kerugoya hospital mortuary
