Nairobi - Three vehicles including a truck, Nissan matatu and a tipper lorry crashed at Chaka along Nyeri-Nanyuki road leaving five people with serious injuries.
The wounded included two drivers, a turn boy and two other occupants.
Eye witnesses said the accident was caused by the tipper heading to Nyeri from Nanyuki after its brakes failed to function and lost control ramming onto other vehicles.
They said the tipper, which operates along the road carrying building materials, was over speeding and the driver unsuccessfully tried to control it.
The Nissan matatu occupants escaped unhurt.
Those injured were taken to Nyeri County referral hospital for treatment.
“The tipper driver and his turn boy were trapped in the cabin but we managed to pull them out. The driver was badly injured while his colleague fell unconscious,” said one eye witnesses.
