Nyeri - Three men have been handed a death sentence by a magistrate court in Othaya, Nyeri County, after they were found guilty of two counts of robbery with violence.
Joseph Githinji Mutero, Paul Kamwaro Muturi and Martin Kariuki Ndegwa were convicted by Senior Resident Magistrate Ben Ekhubi.
They were charged with jointly robbing Margaret Wairimu Kihwaga of her money KES.48,200 and Safaricom scratch cards worth KES.17,500.
In the second count, they were charged with violently robbing Peter Gatungu Ndegwa of his mobile phone worth KES.14,000.
They committed the offences at Giathenge shopping Centre in Othaya on December 29, 2014.
The court heard that the trio was armed with dangerous weapons including a pistol and patchett rifle during the alleged crime and that they used ‘personal violence’.
While delivering the judgement, the court observed that the convicts, although had denied the charges, were guilty of the offences adding that there was sufficient evidence for conviction.
The prosecution adduced nine witnesses in the case.
The convicts were given 14 days to appeal the judgement.
