This habit is more dangerous than smoking

Do you know that being a Couch Potato doesn’t mean you are healthier than a smoker? NO. Recent research shows that those who live a sedentary lifestyle have the same mortality rate as smokers. Being physically active not only allows you to enjoy life, but also keeps diseases at bay.
Here are some reasons as to why you should embrace a physically active lifestyle:
Regular exercise relieves stress and counters its negative consequences with the positive feel-good hormones that help you to maintain a healthy attitude and an upbeat mood. Exercise, especially aerobic exercise, releases those lovely natural brain chemicals that cheer you up. The truth is, depression slows us down. We need to keep moving no matter how bad our moods are. It actually helps alleviate our moods. While most people pick unhealthy habits to de-stress, exercise is a healthier option. Instead of binge eating or even turning to alcohol to relieve you of stress, hit the treadmill and sweat it.
Let’s be real; the people we droll over are fit - I am still jogging my memory to see any sluggish person on the list but I can’t find any. I will always pick Shaun T over …you get the drift? Being overweight comes with low self-esteem for most people. While we cannot all be the same size, we all want a well-toned body. It’s worse when you need to wear plunging necklines and crop tops. We all want to have a fabulous body but most of the times junk food and laziness get in the way of our dreams. Get moving. Truth is, while we may sugarcoat obesity to sound normal, deep down most of us want to be gorgeous. It’s difficult for people to see your inner beauty before you melt the fat around you. Yes inner beauty is important, but hips never killed anyone.

KEEP COGNITIVE DECLINE AT BAY
Cognitive decline takes place as we grow older. We all know that memory loss is the most common symptom of aging. Aerobic exercises ensure a large supply of oxygen reaches our brain hence activating it. You will definitely be sharper than your sedentary peers. Have you noticed that those who perform well in school are generally sporty? I am sure we all remember someone who loved three things; food, sleep and bad grades.
Now I know I have your attention. Obesity can hinder great sex. Do you know that one cause of Erectile Dysfunction is a sedentary lifestyle? Exercise not only makes us more energetic, it makes one look good hence no self-consciousness and low self-esteem. Your partner may not be pleased if he has to discover other body parts by lifting several layers of skin and flabs…you get the drift? And meeeeen…hitting the gym is a better option than visiting the Chemist at midnight for… (cough) …pills. You are also likely to feel fit and be more fit, which in turn will benefit your interest in and ability to carry out sexual activity. Your resilience will also be greater if you exercise, which also benefits your relationship health.
Terminal illnesses kill. It’s not a secret that exercising makes us more immune to diseases. Work out and live longer.
Aging affects the tissues of the lung in some ways that can’t be changed by exercise. However, exercise can improve your breathing by strengthening the muscles that help your lungs open up to bring in oxygen and compress to push out carbon dioxide. Exercise also improves the efficiency with which oxygen permeates the cells of your body through its effects on aerobic capacity. While the non-exercisers will have to stop their workout to catch a breath, you’ll be able to push on past them due to this greater efficiency of your breathing capacity.
