Things to do as a woman to maintain your hygiene status

19 May 2016, 19:21 Shakila Alivitsa

Nairobi - Some woman is thinking this is not important but, uuuuhhhhh, it actually is. Just because you do it does not mean every other person is.

Don’t keep long nails if you do not know how to maintain them

Have you ever been in a matatu then someone is passing and they ‘accidentally’ touch/scratch you? At first you are thinking, ‘It is okay’ it is not that serious because you are not trying to have some drama until you see the unkempt talons. Now you are worried if there is a disease you can get from nails.

I go through phases, one time, I am very diligent on painting my nails and changing their color even on a nightly basis and then there is that other time I just don’t want to even comb my hair. I just cut them off. It is easy maintenance and you do not have to be worried about it if you wash clothes or utensils. Natural is stress free at times.

Just don’t have those long, brownish dirty looking with black stuff on the back on your nails. If you have talons also carry wipes and wash behind them after eating and whatever. You know yourselves.

Carry wet wipes

Wet wipes are not just for babies and removing make up. They are for quick hygiene. Shake someone’s hand-wipe them. Eating and the waiter is not bringing water; you don’t want to smell like meat- wipe them. Go to a washroom and there is no water-wipes are very handy. Wipes do save lives. If your woman does not have wipes, buy them for her otherwise be worried especially if you live in areas with no water. Some women go into the kitchen and you just start being worried if you will die of natural causes.

Hair and weave

You need to buy a wig. I have been planning to get one but getting a good one in Nairobi is tricky. So I have my hair in knots and it is not sexy but what is un-sex-ier is when your hair smells because you had it for too long. If you cannot afford too much salon just buy shampoo, conditioner and coconut oil-they are so cheap. Wash it yourself and when you get money for the salon, you can go. But get a good wig. You just wash yourself and put it on. Problem is when your boyfriend is pulling on it-just find another position until you do your hair.

Don’t wear sandals if your toenails are….ahem!

I am not saying have a fancy Pedi if you cannot afford it but what you need to do is at least trim and have some good polish. Just don’t wear open flats when your toenails are looking…you know what I mean!
