Nairobi - Teachers will start receiving September salaries from Monday, it has emerged, as their dues finally arrive after a stand-off with the Teachers Service Commision TSC.
Education CS Fred Matiang'i had said Sunday that teachers would be paid their dues after talks with treasury and the TSC and has now confirmed that it will be a golden week for teachers.
" Teachers will start receiving their salaries from today," Matiang'i confirmed as he also said he would spend the week meeting teachers unions and their representatives.
Kenya National Union of Teachers KNUT Secretary Wilson Sossion welcomed the move but stated that he would only be happy once teachers actually get the funds.
" It is good to hear the CS but we wait to see if they hit the accounts before we sing him praises," he said, echoing the feelings of a number of teachers who have suffered from several false dawns.
Teachers had been denied their September salaries by the TSC after going on a 5 week strike which the TSC had termed as illegal.
