Nairobi - Teachers will from January face appraisal after the Teachers Service Commision TSC ordered that they do so to ascertain their ability.
The country's 298,000 teachers will have to undergo the appraisal process at the turn of the year, a process which will be held annually.
The 30,000 headteachers will face the same process too.
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia says that the process is necessary in-order to ensure that teachers are of the required standards.
" The appraisal will be undertaken using a
specifically designed form, which will cover professional knowledge and
its application, time management, innovation and creativity in teaching,
learner protection and safety," she said Monday.
She stressed that the appraisal will be free and fair.
" Teacher discipline and conduct, promotion of co-curricular
activities, professional development and collaboration with parents or
guardians and stakeholders will also be assessed in the appraisal.
TSC is also in the meantime in the midst of negotiations with teachers over improved pay packages.
