Suspected rapist survives mob attack

Nairobi - A middle-aged man who allegedly attempted to rape a woman in Kerugoya town has been hospitalized following an attack by members of the public.
The man was saved by police officers who were on security patrols on Tuesday night.
He was accused of waylaying a bar waitress as she walked home after work.
His attackers said he was armed with a knife and a rungu which he used to threaten the woman so that she can settle to his demands.
However, the woman screamed attracting attention of residents who responded immediately.
As he tried to flee, he was cornered and beaten up with all manner of weapons before the police rescued him.
He was taken to Kerugoya police station and later to the County Hospital with serious injuries.
The woman, who had a stab wound in the hand was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later discharged
