Nairobi - A suspected Mungiki adherent is fighting for his dear life at the Kerugoya Level Five hospital in Kirinyaga County after he was attacked by members of the public made of vigilante group.
The said adherent was reported to have been living ''in self-exile'' since 2009 and only sneaked back recently and took refuge at a hotel in Kerugoya town.
Hundreds of Boda Boda riders surrounded the hotel and flashed him out of the hideout while giving him a severe beating with blunt objects.
His legs got fractured while his face was disfigured before police arrived at the scene and rescued him.
Central Region police coordinator Larry Kieng refuted claims the sect had resurrected, terming the few cases that have emerged as isolated cases.
“What we are seeing is normal criminal activities but has nothing to do with the re-emergence of the outlawed group,” Kieng said.
